The signal
MUFG began a phased enterprise AI rollout to approximately 35,000 employees at Mitsubishi UFJ Bank. Its adoption approach does not rely only on a central transformation team. AI champions inside business areas help colleagues experiment and connect the technology to local work.
That structure addresses a common enterprise gap: central teams understand policy and platforms, while local teams understand the exceptions, language, and review expectations of the actual workflow.

Why finance teams should care
A central mandate can create awareness, but it rarely creates durable habits. Employees need examples that match their role and a trusted person who can answer questions at the moment of use.
Champions also provide a feedback channel. They can identify repeated use cases, surface control concerns, and show the central team where a lightweight prompt should become a governed workflow.

The operating move
Select champions for workflow credibility, not enthusiasm alone. Give them a structured playbook covering approved tools, data boundaries, reusable patterns, escalation routes, and a monthly forum for sharing evidence.
Measure weekly active use, repeat use by workflow, time saved, and outputs accepted after review. Licence activation is an onboarding metric—not an adoption outcome.
